Peggy Olin goes above and beyond for Birch State Park

Our OneWorld Properties President and CEO Peggy Olin received the Birch Above and Beyond Award March 29 at an Evening by the Sea at the Sonesta Fort Lauderdale Beach.

Peggy has served as a board member of the Friends of Birch State Park since 2015.

“I couldn’t be more proud to be part of this community specifically because I love coming to the park. The first time I ever came to the park I couldn’t believe I had spent so many years not being at the park,” she said.

“That was my mission. There are so many people I come across and they say, ‘I’ve never been to Birch State.’ So let’s change that. It’s about creating awareness about our community, about all the benefits we have living in this amazing place. Every little bit helps. It’s just about spreading the word.”

The Friends also recognized Ultimate Software with the Birch Caring Corporate Citizen Award and Water Taxi of Fort Lauderdale with the Birch Loyal Partner Award.

Hugh Taylor Birch State Park is a 180-acre site at 3109 E. Sunrise Blvd. off A1A between the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean.

Visitors can go to the beach, camp, paddle a canoe or kayak in the lagoon, fish from the seawall, hike on trails, and bike on a paved road.

The barrier island became a state park in the 1940s after Hugh Taylor Birch gifted his estate. Birch State Park is home to the last hardwood hammock trees in Broward County.

The Birdies for Birch Golf Tournament is May 7 at Lago Mar Country Club.
